Time to bake pie with the traditional Saskatoon berries! The kids are making the maple leave cut-outs for school's flag day. There's so much of the red-and-white themes going around in the neighborhood parties and displays at the farmer's market. I love it when people become so worked up over the national holiday.
I stocked up on the preserves and berry-filled marmalades as early as May, I was experimenting on my pie crusts and making sure everything I needed is in the pantry. I shudder at the thought of an empty pantry and the long drive to the supermarket considering the weather, it's not worth stressing over errands.
I got my berries fresh, tasty and sweet - I kept the crust flaky enough. By the time kids got back from Aunt Twiggy's the first pie had disappeared off my counter in seconds. Couldn't be more happy :)
Glorious and rich Ontario berries on my pie! |
Yes, Canada day is never complete without the parades!
This was absolutely mouth-watering. I missed my mom's cooking as I read through your post. She used to bake pies and cheesecakes for dessert which we kids immensely enjoyed. Saskatoon berries are also my favorite. Did you know that Saskatoon berries are not only tasty but healthy as well. My mom told me that these berries are anti-cancer, anti-aging, and is good for the heart. That is why I would love to have your recipe. Would you mind sharing it please?
ReplyDeleteHey I’d love to get your recipe as well. I always have been a fan of tarts and pastries; I would really really appreciate if you could post your recipe here. When I make crusts, I also try my best to make it flaky, the problem is that it comes off a bit dry. Perhaps you can share a few tips for me please? Much appreciated!
DeleteThese are definitely yummy! I had to go and get me a pie after I saw your pictures. You should consider going into business since you love pies and preserves and stuff. I'll be your first customer. :)
